Film is a powerful medium for healing, expressing rage, confronting desperation, and making visible our specific experiences as queer people in Southeast Asia. For many of our selected artists, filmmaking becomes a communal act, creating opportunities not just for individuals, but also collectives, to craft their own narratives. Often starting from deeply personal stories, these films connect individual experiences to the broader queer landscape, revisiting the past and engaging in the decolonization of queer history. Through these works, we also witness the transformation of music, poetry, and literature into compelling visual narratives. They offer not only creative expression but also a means of reimagining identity, memory, and belonging.
